Timber Dining Tables Melbourne

A solid timber dining table is a genuine long-term investment. Unlike veneer or engineered surfaces, a solid timber dining table can be sanded and refinished if the surface is damaged over years of use, which means a well-made timber dining table can be passed from one generation to the next without losing its character. The grain of a timber dining table is alive — no two pieces of timber are identical, so your table is subtly unique. Oak timber dining tables develop a warm, golden patina over time; walnut timber dining tables deepen to a rich, dark chocolate tone; Australian hardwood timber dining tables carry the distinctive character of local species. The timber species and construction of each timber dining table are listed on the product page, and our team can confirm construction details in store.

We stock timber dining tables in a range of sizes to suit rooms from compact to generous. Allow about 60 centimetres of width per person at the timber dining table — a 1.5-metre timber dining table seats four to six, a 1.8-metre timber dining table seats six comfortably and a 2.4-metre timber dining table seats eight to ten. For a round timber dining table, a 1.2-metre diameter seats four to six and 1.5 metres seats six to eight. Leave at least a metre of clearance around the timber dining table so chairs can be pulled back freely. Extendable timber dining tables are also available for those who need everyday proportions that grow for entertaining. Bring your room dimensions into any of our Melbourne showrooms and our team will help you size the right timber dining table. To compare timber tables with stone and ceramic ones at the same seat count, browse dining tables for eight or more.

A timber dining table is straightforward to care for with the right habits. Wipe the surface with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry it promptly — do not leave standing water on a timber dining table, as pooled moisture can lift or cloud the finish. Use placemats and coasters to protect the timber dining table from heat and the ring marks left by wet glasses. A periodic furniture oil or wax — applied every six to twelve months depending on the finish — keeps the timber nourished and looking its best. With this routine, a timber dining table develops a warm, lived-in patina that becomes part of the piece's character. Our team can recommend the appropriate care product for the specific finish on your timber dining table.

A timber dining table is one of the most versatile anchors for a dining room because the natural warmth of the wood pairs with a wide range of materials and colours. Upholstered fabric or velvet dining chairs add softness that complements the grain of the timber dining table. Leather dining chairs are practical and handsome alongside a timber dining table, particularly in family homes where wipe-clean seats are a practical requirement. A timber sideboard or buffet in the same species as the timber dining table creates a cohesive collection, while a stone-top buffet adds material contrast. Our team will help you build a dining room around the timber dining table that feels intentional and considered.

If solid timber appeals in the dining room, the same material story carries through the rest of the home. Our oak dining tables share their warmth with timber coffee tables in the living room and solid timber bedside tables in the bedroom, so a single timber tone can tie the whole house together.
